Toyota Repair: 2001 Sequoia AC dash switch starts to flash on and off, metal particles, dash switch
QuestionHello Ted - 2001 Sequoia, 100K miles. no leaks or other issues. Went to turn on the AC today and the engine started to feel like it was loaded down for a few seconds and then the AC switch LED started to blink on and off every second. The AC never actuated since the air did not become refridgerated. I shut the vehicle down and turned it on to try again, same thing. I popped the hood to look for leaks, damaged belts, none. Everything looks good. Any recommendations for this one ?
AnswerThere have been some issues with the a/c compressors in the past and toyota had issued a service bulletin(TSB-AC001-04)it will require replacing the compressor and some of the other components such as a/c pressure lines and the expansion valves for both front and rear a/c. What happens is that the compressor is disintegrating causing metal particles to enter the entire system clogging lines and valves, this is not good news, it may run up to $4,000 to correct this problem.
