Toyota Repair: camshaft timing marks, crankshaft pulley, compression stroke
QuestionThanks for your quick response to my question about removing the crankshaft pulley. Pry bar worked great for leverage. I can't find information anywhere on the internet for proper positioning of my camshaft timing wheel. (1984 Tercel - Engine 3A) Do you know where I can find this information? The wheel has a small hole on the front face, and directly opposite that is a raised dot. Behind, on the engine casing, are 3 marks. I'm assuming I should align the wheel so I can see the middle mark through the hole in the wheel. Do you know if this is correct? Thanks again for your help Paul!
AnswerHi sean, when u do stuff like that always mark before taking it apart. put #1 piston on top dead center(exactly when stops on very top) on compression stroke. at this time the lobes on camshaft on# cyl should be up, both valve closed, DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE WITH BELT REMOVED. if u have it removed alredy turn slow if fiels like touching somthing u must move cam. BE CAREFUL BUD
