QuestionAloha from Hawaii:
My 93 xcab with a 3vz-e stalled suddenly while going down the road.
I thought it was a fuel problem, so I changed the filter and tested the fuel pump by seeing if the pump sends fuel at the driver's side rail connection: it worked. This does not address an intermittent problem, such as a fuel pump that is going bad. Should this be checked? If so, how? But before you answer, please read on...
I was towed home. Through this site, I learned how to look for an error code, as the Check Engine light came on while I was driving.
Code 14 = Ignitor or Distributor.
The truck only dies when the engine warms up, and I read in other posts that it could be a vacuum problem. Should I still check, or is this issue most likely caused by in fact a dying Ignitor or Distributor?
What should I do?
Thanks in advance.
Kelii
AnswerI just had another post with with the same exact problem.
The 14 code indicates a loss of a signal from the distributor to the igniter which tells the computer that there is a loss of ignition to the spark plugs, when this happens the computer turns the fuel injectors off, there are a lot more distributor failures than igniter failures on these engines so I would recommend replacing the distributor.
