Toyota Repair: Toyota 1997 4 Runner Hood Latch?, hood latch, hood cable

Question
I popped open my hood and right away I could feel that the tension on the cable to the hood lost all its tension.

I further investigated and had to removed the spring from the locking mechanism and saw the hood cable somewhat connected. Any one have a diagram on how the cable connects to the locking mechanism spring so the tension is back to normal. Currently the hood will not lock properly when you try to shut the hood

It seems pretty simple but I can't seem to figure it out

The control cable should attach by slipping through the hole. There should also be a catch hook in the lever also. That may be what you're talking about.
