Toyota Repair: Wireless Remotes dont work: 2000 4Runner, wireless remotes, neat trick

Question
How can I repair my wireless remotes? They have been loosing range over the last few weeks so I replaced the batteries and then they got even worse. Now if I stand next to the car they will not work. This includes the rear window on my 4runner. Everything else seems to be AOK.

I really don't know short of the tx, or rx being broken, or the new battery being low. I would try replacing the batteries one more time.

On a side note. I can tell you an extremely neat trick about the frequency & how the remotes transmit their signals. If you hold your remote against the side of your temple & face the vehicle, you can increase the range 50-100%.
