Toyota Repair: Front Wheel bearings for 93 Celica GT; 2,2liter, toyota celica gt, front wheel bearings
QuestionI have a 93 Toyota Celica GT; 2.2 liter. I thought I could install the left front wheel bearing myself, but I'm stuck. Outer hub is off and the outer bearing & race is out, but I can't get inner race out or new in because the drive axle is still extending through center of bearing & frame. It is connected to a cv joint just behind the frame, then there's the drive shaft going up to the transfer case with another cv joint there as it enters the transfer case. Do I have to take all of that out? If so how? as I don't have a clue. I've bit off more than I can chew. Help! What do I do? (The dealer wanted $1000 to install)
AnswerYou could have saved yourself some grief if you asked me before trying to do this.
The bearing has to be pressed out and back in with a hydraulic press.
And yes, all that has to come out.
My advice is to try to put it back together and carefully drive to a repair shop or have it towed, the dealer price sounds way to high for just a bearing replacement, should be no more than $500.
