Tractor Repair: solenoid, starter solenoid, solenoid
QuestionIs there anyway to check a solenoid to determine if it is bad? I have a '61 Ford Workmaster 601 diesel.The number on the solenoid is ST 541.Thanks for any input.

Answeri take it you mean the starter solenoid if the starter is engageing then the solenoid should be fine but there are two parts to a starter solenoid there are also the contact that switchs on the motor if you put a voltmeter on the two points of the contact you should get 12 to 13v then get someone to turn the starter with the key and this should drop to near 0 if you get anything over one volt the contact is bad and therefor you need to get a new solenoid
