Tractor Repair: Ford 9n, ford 9n, valve clearances
QuestionHi... I have a 1941 9n that I bought awhile ago...when the tractor runs for a short while I can here a tapping at the tappet cover side, seems like after it warmes up is when it starts ...you can here it some what above the motor. are the valves out of adjustment or worn...
AnswerHello,
The cover will have to be removed and the valve clearances checked amd adjusted as necessary. I doubt that worn valves would cause a noise loud enough for you to hear. Intake valve clearance should be .010 to .012 inch, and the exhaust should be .014 to .016 inch.
