Tractor Repair: clutch for Farmall C, antique tractors, farmalls
QuestionI'm considering a Farmall C which needs a clutch. Any idea how much labor time is involved with replacing the clutch? I'm considering doing it myself, I have been working on tractors for several years, but have never done anything w/ Farmalls. Are there flat rate manuals available for older (antique) tractors?
AnswerHello,
A Farmall C is a very easy tractor to split, so you should be able to replace the clutch in an afternoon if you have the right tools. Of course, you may not be able to finish it the same day if the flywheel has to be resurfaced. If it has a wide front, obviously it's a little easier to keep the front half from tipping over by just putting some wedges between the axle and the frame, and then you don't need any splitting stands bolted to the frame, etc. There are flat rate manuals available, but I'm not sure where to get one right off the top of my head. There's tons of manuals on ebay, operator's manuals, service manuals, flat rate manuals, etc.
Good luck,
Arnie
