Tractor Repair: fuel injector pump, throttle shaft, rotary pump
QuestionI have a mf25..I had a leak and took the throttle lever off to see where leak was coming from..the throttle pivot slipped slightly down into throttle cover, I pulled it back up, put throttle lever back on and now am getting no fuel to the injectors..could I have caused something to drop loose into the throttle cover? I need to know what is under the cover, if I take it off will I mess up something inside? I am fairly proficient in the mechanics of the tractor, having rebuilt the engine and hydraulics some time ago..this has me stumped though..hope you can help..thanks..Jim
AnswerHello,
This is a tricky one. Injections pumps are something that even a tractor repair shop won't take apart to repair. They send them to a diesel injection repair facility because they're such a precision mechanism that it takes special equipment to test, repair, and calibrate them properly. I don't have a repair manual to show me what kind of pump you have, but I believe you have a CAV rotary pump. It sounds like the throttle shaft got disconnected from the governor linkage. I'm not a MF expert, as stated in my profile. I guess if you want to take off the cover to look inside, you can't really make things much worse, because it's no good the way it is now. Even if I had a manual, it would not show a breakdown of the pump, only removal, installation, and timing it to the engine. If you feel confident enough to remove the cover, go ahead. Otherwise, send the pump in to a diesel injection repair shop and have them fix it.
Wish I could be more help, but I don't fix injection pumps.
Good luck,
Arnie
