Tractor Repair: PTO switch?, tractor restoration, shaft

Hey..I just bought a 1974 Gravely riding tractor.. and im new to tractor restoration and I was wondering what the PTO switch is and what it does...could you tell me?

PTO drive is a method powering a second device like a mower from the main engine--- and the switch would be to switch this on or off.
The pto drive is very often a shaft protruding from the back or side of the main body of the tractror.This shaft should ideally be covered up when not in use.!!!
I recommend that you try to get a manual of your machine ASAP.
