Tractor Repair: Ford 1900 Power Steering, broken spring, steep hills
QuestionI have a Ford 1900 diesel with 4wd and loader. My power steering quit working as I was mowing some steep hills. The loader and 3pt hydraulics are working fine. I notice that when I raise the 3pt all the way up or stress the loader the steering begins to work. I have flushed the sump and claened the filter. I also tried bleeding the lines from below the steering wheel to the sump. What's wrong?
AnswerMario sounds like the priority valve may have a broken spring this valve gives oil to the steering first.
If the spring fails it usually allows the oil to by pass the steering.
The only problem is that I can not tell you where the valve is as all the 1900 Fords I have had anythink to do with has had manual steering here in Australia you would need to obtain a hydraulic diagrame and see where the valve is.
Mario hope this helps with your problem please keep me informed as to how you go with it.
