Triumph Repair: steering column, Spitfire, Steering
QuestionI have substituted the two bearings (upper and lower) and the flexible joint (refer to Anglo Parts catalogue page 98, components nr. 69 and 106), but now there is a noisy movement of the steering column when I pass with the car on irregularityes on the road. What could I do for reducing this fastidious defect ?
Thank in advance. Carlo
AnswerCarlo,
You don't mention which model year, but despite the steering column change near the end of production all the cars do have a felt pad in the lower clamp and an upper clamp. If either of those are loose you'll get a movement in the entire steering column.
You also might have loose steering rack clamps. Not a bad idea to make sure everything is tight.
Cheers,
Jim
