Triumph Repair: Reverse gear spacer, spacer, missing something
QuestionI am reassembling a 79 spit transmission that was not taken apart by myself. I am installing reverse with its spacer and shaft. The spacer appears to be several hundred thou to large for the shaft. Am I missing something. I would expect the spacer to be the same clsoe smooth fit as reverse with its new bushing. The book shows nothing, IPC shows nothing and the spare transmssion in a box has the same goofy part.
AnswerDean,
From the sound of it, whoever pulled the transmissions apart weren't able to find the correct part and tried to "make do" with a spacer (or plain bushing) not correct for the Spitfire.
The transmissions I've had apart have had a spacer (distance piece) that was a proper fit on the reverse shaft.
Cheers,
Jim
