Triumph Repair: generator, cable ends, volt meter
QuestionReplaced generator last summer on a MK1 1964 Spitfire then put a new battery in. Used all summer and no issues. This year battery drained after a few starts and I recharged and tested the generator and it wasn't charging, I think. Could it be something else?
AnswerHi Dave,
What do you mean "I think"? A generator is either charging or not charging.
Check the belt first and then put a volt meter across the battery posts (not the cable ends) and read battery voltage. Then start the engine and set it at a fast idle and read the voltage again. It should read 13.8v to 14.5v or it is not charging.
