QuestionI am refitting a 74 spitfire mk4 with a 1500 engine and o/d transmission. I am trying to fined/ confirm the correct length for the new drive shaft. As a side
note I tried measuring both trans (out of the car) and subtracted the deference,
now I am looking for a "drive shaft stretcher"
AnswerBentley official repair manual should have the required information;
The engine change won't cause any issues, but going with an OD,
The OD causes the drive shaft to need to be shorter than a non-OD drive shaft.
If you talk to any drive shaft shop, they can advise you how to measure the flange spacing, and you can take them your non-OD drive shaft and they can cut or build you a new one using your yokes.
You can also ask around the NASS, triumph and spitfire forums/mail groups; often you can find another member who has a OD drive shaft they are willing to part with, which would save you a bit of effort...
Hope that helps..
