QuestionHello Scott,
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read my question. I have a 1976 Triumph Spitfire 1500, which I recently acquired, and when I push the clutch in, I hear some knocking. (somewhat intermittent-sounds like if you put a bolt in a clothes dryer with a bunch of clothes) As soon as I let the clutch up, the knocking disappears. Any suggestions on what this could be?
Thanks Again,
Chris
AnswerI bought a spit that behaved like this. It ended up being a loose flywheel clanking against the crank and rear of block.
Since it is when the clutch depressed, it is more than likely one of these:
-Loose flywheel/protruding bolt hitting clutch disc
-Locating pin or bolt loose in clutch pressure plate and hitting another part
-Clutch disc installed backwards, and take up spring are hitting flywheel bolts (one side is usually marked "Flywheel side")
-Throwout bearing starting to fail
