Triumph Repair: 1980 spitfire charcoal canister, spitfire 1500, charcoal canister
QuestionI recently purchased a 1980 Spitfire 1500. The car had not been ran for 6 years. The engine starts and runs ok, however after a few minutes of running-- fluid ?gas starts pouring out of the second carbon canister that is open to air. I do not believe this is a California emissions car.
AnswerHi Roy,
First this means the canisters are trashed. The fuel can come from the fuel tank or from the overflow pipe on the carb float chamber. A simple test would be to remove the vent pipe from the tank and from the carb and put them into a jar and watch to see which is supplying the fuel. Then make the repairs to stop the fuel flow. (over filled tank/lines connected wrong or what ever you find) (carb would be a dirty of worn needle and seat or a float problem)
When the problem is corrected you can not use the canisters again.
let me know,
Howard
