Triumph Repair: line on carb, moss motors, answer mark

QUESTION: HI Jim, I was looking at my carb. today stromberg  1972 spitfire IV. I found a line at the the bottom of the carb mount. that is 3 inches long hose and is hooked up to nothing. I put my thumb on it and it suck in. where is this suppose to be hooked up to? thank Mark

ANSWER: Mark,

There are no external fittings on teh bottom of the carb or mount on the stock Mk IV Stromberg setup.

There should be a fitting on the upper part of the carb body attached to the carbon cannister and the valve cover breather.  Perhaps this is what you're seeing?
