The best way to set the ignition timing is to use a timing light.

Static timing on the 1974 TR6 is 12 degrees before Top Dead Center.  The timing setting at idle is 4 degrees after Top Dead Center.

Make sure that the points gap is .014 to .016 (.015 nominal) before checking the timing.
