Triumph Repair: igniton system, connector plug, black lead
QuestionJim,
I have read some other letters u helped people with.I need a little help rewiring the igniton system on my '76 spitfire. Me and a friend are going to try and auto cross it and we stripped it down and painted it and now im having trouble rewiring it back up. I have most of it figured out except these two wires that come out of the distibuter and go into a box and then come out? I pretty sure the is what is not allowing me to get spark. If could help me out that would be great. Thanks.
James
AnswerHi James,
Before I answer your question... what region of the country are you in? Hmmm.. I could be helping the competition...
Just kidding! Ok, the later Spitfire with factory electronic ignition has two a two connector plug. According to the wiring diagrams I have in hand there should be a white wire with black tracer and white wire with blue tracer coming out of the ignition module.
The white/black lead connects to the ignition coil while the white/blue lead should connect to the ballast resister (which is fed from one of the fuses).
Or is your car equipped with a separate ignition unit? If so, are there any markings on the box?
Cheers,
Jim
