QuestionHi
I have a maroon 51 Renault Clio 1.2 16V Expression 3 door with two problems.
The first being that it is stalling constantly when in slow moving traffic or at roundabouts. This seems to happen when I am in lower gears (usually first) and lower revs. The electronic warning light comes on and the car then stalls. I have found that if I notice the light coming on in time reving the engine seems to make the warning light go out and stop the car stalling. Also once the car stalls I can here a ticking sound coming from under bonnet and once I restart car need to rev to clear warning light.
The next problem I have is when I am steering round roundabouts or tight corners that there is a fast thumping sound coming from car.
Sorry if I haven't descirbed these problems well, hope you can help.
AnswerThe first problem with cutting out... I'm thinking you have a leaking vacuum line from the inlet manifold, or an inlet manifold leak- or just some leak somewhere between the air filter and engine inlet.
To find out which you need to have a dignostic scan run at a garage or part shop, phone a few garages/part shops and find a good price for a diagnostic scan,£10/£20 or so.
The scan will reveal any error codes, if you relay these codes to me I can diagnose the engine fault.
As for the clunking.knocking at full lock that's most likely worn CV joints or a worn driveshaft - maybe even wheel bearings - is the sound only present when accelerating, or is it made worse by accelerating when at full lock? - tell me how accelerating changes the sound and I can figure out which it is.
