UK Car Repair: Renault 19 RN starting problems, crank sensor, renault 19
QuestionHi I have a 1995 Renault 19 1.4 RN and all of a sudden it wont start I tried a hill start but that didn't work. Then I removed the air filter and noticed when the throttle is on there is no fuel going into the head. I tried looking under the back seats for the fuel pump but I couldn't find it as no book came with the car.
Thanks.
AnswerIt is unusual for a fuel pump to fail while parked. Even if it did, there would be enough fuel in the system for it to fire up and run for a few seconds or so. It is more likely to be an ignition fault. Modern cars are operated by ECU.s. If a crank sensor failed it would prevent a spark, without that signal the fuel pump would be disconnected. You need to see if you have an ignition spark at a plug.
