my car it takes time to start or doesn't start at all if it starts they wont be idling you keep pressing the a accelerate to keep it running its a rover 75 v registration

It sounds like a fuel pressure problem. To begin, turn the key on and off 3 or 4 times without going to the start position, then start it.  If it starts right away then the system is losing pressure somewhere. As for the idle you may have an intake leak somewhere before the manifold, or even an idle adjustment.  Has the fuel filter ever been changed?
