UK Car Repair: my 306 makes noise when turning steering wheel, steering wheel, fan belt

why does my 306 make a noise when turning the steering wheel . it sounds like its comming from the vanbelt

It most likely is a fan belt, it may just be loose, or, the steering fluid might be low, or, the pump may be overloaded causing the belt to slip.  Just to be sure check that the tyres are properly inflated. Check the belt before the engine is started and cold.
