What are the step for replacing the water pump in a 1986 golf ?

 You need to remove the accessory belts, timing cover, the pump pulley, the radiator/heater hoses, (some models have an additional metal cover over the pump) and finally the pump itself, in that order.  Use new gaskets when replacing it.
