Volkswagen Repair: help me please., vacuum leak, manifold intake
QuestionHi i am working on a super beetle 1974. I just got it running couple of weeks ago but now it doesnt run. What i noticed so far is that one side of the engine is getting fuel to the spark plug while the other side is not. I figured maybe it's the manifold intake that is leaking. Can you help me with this solution?
AnswerHi Brett;
This sounds like a vacuum leak to me. A localized one like a split, or cracked carburetor gasket, or a rusted intake tube with a pinhole leak of some sort. Without fuel in all 4 cylinders, your engine simply would not idle at all. 2 out of 4 wouldn't be enough to keep it going. Try a little shot of "WD40" on that side of the engine, and just see if the idle speed goes up(from more fuel).
Good luck, Brett. I hope you keep that classic on the road.
