Volkswagen Repair: glove box, vw golf 4, glove boxes

Unfortunately, my friend accidently broke the lock to my glove box.  I cannot seem to find a P/N for one and I truthfully don't think they call them "glove boxes" any more.  The dealer wants $400 to replace it.  I cannot believe the part costs that much, does it?  Where could I find a part online?

I have a 1998 VW Golf 4 cyl.

Yes we do call them goveboxes, at least in Canada.  I think that price is a little steep.  You can replace the latch itself. It comes as a kit and costs about $100 CDN.
I think you'll have to order it through you dealer and they will need to see the colour.
