Volkswagen Repair: Window motor 1999 VW Cabrio GLS, screw job, vw cabrio
QuestionI have a 1999 VW Cabrio GLS 2.O liter manual transmission. Recently, the driver's side automatic window stopped working. I brought it in to be checked and the dealer told me that the window motor is dead and needs to be replaced. The part is very expensive (he quoted me 367, but I have located it for 304 on the internet). Anyway, he said that every time he replaces a motor, during the replacement, the regulator always breaks. So, he said we have to replace the regulator, too. That will cost an additional 272.00. I have had several bad experiences with this dealer and don't trust him. Does the regulator always break when you replace the window motor? Is there any way to prevent this? Also, if he breaks the regulator, why is that my problem to pay for that? Please lend any advice you can, as I need to get this fixed and I don't want to be ripped off. Thank you!!
NOTE: The window motor makes no sound and the window is stuck in the up position -- it won't go down. The lights do not dim when the window switch is pressed, so I am pretty sure the motor is broken
AnswerAsk a different shop. He is doing the screw job. the window motor makes no sound well the switch itself could be the problem alot cheaper too. Advise you go to website where there are alot of OWNERS and MECHANIC TYPES at www.vwvortex.com as there is only 1 guy here at this site.
