Volkswagen Repair: Ignition, volkwagen jetta, locksmith

My key goes into but will not turn the ignition.  I don't know if I need to go to a locksmith or mechanic.  The car is '95 Volkwagen Jetta.  I would sincerely appreciate your help.

I would try the locksmith first for all the mechanic can do is replace the whole unit.  Unless you want a new key for ignition only  - the ignition does come apart into 2 - one part for starting the car (the actual ignition), the other for locking out other keys.  Happened to me (but my car was 25 years old)
