I have owned this Volvo since new.  It used to start right away when I turn the key.  Now I have to help by pressing on the gas pedal after I turn the key.  My mechanic (he works mostly on Mercedes) told me that is not unusual for an older car.  I am thinking of asking my mechanic to replace the fuel check valve. Your advice would be appreciated.  I have all recommended services done on time on this Volvo, as I want to keep it for a very long time.  Thank you.

George, you didnt need my help on this one.  Seems like you hit it right on the nose.  I would have him check the fuel pressure just to make sure and see if the pressure drops right away when you shut off the car.  That is a sure sign that the check valve needs replacing.  Roger
