Volvo Repair: flashing transmission arrow on dashboard, model volvo, scan tool

why would the transmission (downshift?)arrow flash on and off on the dashboard, it will flash for a while and then suddenly stop, i will be able to drive for a period of time and it will start flashing again and eventually reset, i have not noticed any difference in transmission shifting

what model volvo do you have ? but  any way i give you answer like this  you need to scan the car first with scan tool for fault codes in transmission  the arrow is coming on to tell you something is going to be  bad or there is defect in transmission  and needs your attention, the arrow is same as check engine light just arrow is for fault in transmission .
