Volvo Repair: idle speed, air fuel mixture, chilton manual
QuestionI just recently replaced the exterior fuel pump on a 1983 fuel injected turbo wagon. the car now starts up just fine but holds its idle at around 2100 rpm this seems high but i cant figure out how to get it down. the chilton manual says i can adjust the "idle control screw"(?) but i cant seem to find the dang thing. any advice would be great
AnswerAlex, throw Chiltons in the garbage or use it as toilet paper. There are a few issues that can be with the old Mechanical injection. The idle screw is a black knob under the intake by the throtle body. The idle speed motor may also be an issue or the controller. I usually by-pass the brown wire on the passenger side harness. If you unplug just that brown wire, you will see the idle drop. It may also need an air/fuel mixture adjustment or there may be a vacuum leak and injector seal leak. Roger
