Volvo Repair: Volvo woes, volvo v70xc, awd

I recently purchased a volvo v70xc awd with 86K.  I loved the car but..... after only 4000 miles I've lost compression in the #2 cyl.  Isn't this a little early for this kind of trouble?  Am I destined to dump a buch of cash into a "dealership only" repair here?  My regular mech. told me he doesn't have the tools to pull the head, and only dealers can get them.  What are my options?

Tools are available, but pricey. You can actually get by without them, but its risky. The outcome could be disastrous for the shop that tries to eyeball it.I've done it without the tools, but then bought them.Where are you located? I may be able to recommend a shop
