Volvo Repair: Motor Oil, white smoke, motor oil

My father in law put some 10-50 motor oil in my 1985 volvo. I went and bought the same 10w-50 motor oil but the brand was mobil. I went to drive the car the next morning and the car started to blow white smoke through the exshaust. I had to park the car immediatly and took the train to work. What went wrong?

the oil is not the problem  if you have white smoke than you burning coolant now you have to test what  and were is burning
but the oil has nothing to do  only if you dont put oil you can overheat engine and blow some gasket  from the heat and than you start burning coolant and you get white smoke.if you from chicago i can help you little more .
