Volvo Repair: 87 740GLE wont run undre 2.5k RPM, haynes book, flame trap

This is kind of a follow up!  I changed the throttle switch it was dead !  anyway I have it running but it is running rich.  I was poking around under the intake man and bumped (what I think is a EGR valve) an item the has a hose running to the intake and pluges into the block.  and has a tube apx 1" long and about 1/2" OD connected to nothing?  anyway whin I disturbed it the engine started to sputter?  well I know this is a problem and I need to replace it?  but what is it?  I cant find it in this haynes book anywhere?  please help.  Note the car has 170k on it and I bought it for $400.00 and it is clec and true no dings!  ( ya good deal if I can get and keep it running)  Thank you Dave

this car I do not think would have EGR.it may be the constant idle speed motor.it may be a part of the flame trap box which is a black box under the intake manifold the idle motor is asilver ot gold colored part with 2 hoses attached to it and is mounted to abracket that is attached to intake manifold.
