BMW: Battery Safety Terminal, battery safety, 540i

Hi Josh,

I know this might be out of your area of expertise but I figured maybe you know about the problem I’m having.  I have a 2000 540i 6spd.  About once a week while im driving it completely shuts off on my, I get no electrical power at all, even the hazards don’t work.  Then after about 2 min of waiting the power comes back on.  My dealer told me it might be a problem with the BST (Battery Safety Terminal).  Do you have any suggestions on what the problem might be and any general info BSTs.  Thanks.

 Unfortunately I have absolutely NO experience with this BST system.

 I would check on some forums for people who have had the same problems.

 Look under the E39 (your model 5-series) Forum.  Do a search for BST and see what comes up.
