Hello there!
Could uou help me at all? I saw your site on the web.
I have a 318i E30 Convertible model (K reg 92) and the motor has gone at the rear. I am looking to change to a manual instead - I DO NOT want to purchase or fix the motors.
Are you able to tell me how this is possible? Or who I could ask? I would be very thankful!
Kind regards
Rob.
Answer -
Rob,
You should be able to let the roof back without using the motors. I own a convertible, but it has a manual roof, and I've never messed with the electric tops before. Try to let it back manually, and if that doesn't work, you may be stuck. That's about all I can tell you for the time being. I'll do some research and see what I can find.
good luck
Josh
Thanks Josh.
I am unable to force the hood back as it seems the motors are preventing the movement. I simply cant believe this can be that difficult?! I mean, surely this type of thing must happen quite often and therefore a good option would be to make the car a manual top?
Im finding this fustrating as you can imagine!
If you could perhaps look into this further for me, that would be brilliant!
I appreciate your answer and such a quick respnse Josh.
Regards
Rob.
AnswerRob,
Here is a break down of how the top works:

There are some switches that tell the motor's to stop/start turning when the top is all the way up/down. If these are not working, the motor's will not work.
Maybe you can remove the motors and go from there.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but convertibles aren't my specialty.
Good luck,
Josh
