My air-conditioner on my '90 Cadillac Brougham will not come on. The fuses are good, the freon is good, the blower motors work. I measure 12v at the compressor terminal, but there is not enough current available to pull the clutch in. I can get the compressor to engage by juming 12v directly to the compressor. It will usually stay engaged after the external 12v jumper is removed.
Where is the compressor relay located in the Brougham? Could there be a fault code causing the problem as you mentioned concerning the 1992 Seville A/C question?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Are you getting any CODES ?. Is the CHECK ENGINE light illuminated on the dash ?.
OK< locate the A/C CUT-OUT RELAY it has 4 wires:
Terminal A = Light Green
Terminal B = Dark Blue
Terminal C = Brown
Terminal D = Brown
With the ignition ON, Engine running, Controls set for maximum A/C,
Do you have battery voltage at terminal D ?.
Do you have battery voltage at terminal A ?.
Let me know.

AnswerWHY would you need to go to a service station to obtain the CODES when you can do it yourself.
Here is ALL you need to do:
1. Turn the ignition switch, via the key, to the ON
position ONLY. Do NOT start the engine.
2. Locate the OFF and WARMER buttons on the A/C-Heater
control panel.
3. Push and hold BOTH of these buttons simultaneously until
ALL of the displays and lights ALL turn ON, Then release
BOTH buttons.
4. The next thing you will see on the display is: ..E and
then MAYBE some CODE(s) like E12 or E28 or E55, etc,
etc. If you see any of these type CODES WRITE THEM DOWN
and let me know what they are.
5. The next thing you will see is: .E.E and
then MAYBE some CODE(s) like E12 or E28 or E55, etc,
etc. If you see any of these type CODES WRITE THEM DOWN
and let me know what they are.
6. the next thig you will see is: ..F and then MAYBE some
CODE(s) like F12 or F28 or F55, etc, etc. If you see any
of these type CODES WRITE THEM DOWN and let me know what
they are.
7. the next thig you will see is: .F.F and then MAYBE some
CODE(s) like F12 or F28 or F55, etc, etc. If you see
any of these type CODES WRITE THEM DOWN and let me know
what they are.
8. The next thing you will see is: .7.0 and this is where
we STOP at and just turn OFF the ignition via the key
and this will RESET the display back to normal.
The relay is usually located near the back of the RIGHT SIDE valve cover at the back of the engine near the firewall. Just look for the 4 different colored wires that are connected to a plastic connector that the relay plugs into.
If you have a camera and can e-mail pictures, SEVERAL, Of the engine compartment in the area as said above, E-mail them to me at:
[email protected]
and I will identify the relay and e-mail the correct picture that shows the relay.
WHEW, My fingers are sore from all this typing.
