Chevrolet: 87 Chevy Caprice - no reverse, chevy caprice, drive changes

Question
I recently purchased a 1987 Chevy Caprice that runs great and drives great with one exception - no reverse! The car when in drive  changes smoothly - no noise - no lurches - no hesitation - drives great.  When placed in reverse - nothing happens - no noises - no movement what so ever.  Any suggestions or ideas? Worst case - rebuilt tranny - ball park $.

  HI  wow no reverse , well I hope that it is just the linkage , it could be broken or worn or just off. thats not to costly. but if thr gear/band is gone, it will cost a few bucks. I would have it looked at soon due to something else might happen to it due to the no-reverse.  ok
