Chevrolet: 99 cavalier front brakes, disc rotors, calipers
QuestionHello...I was working as a mechanic for several years up until 3 years ago. Today a friend asked me if I would do the front brakes on her car. I haven't looked at it yet but was wondering if the rotors are pressed to the hub in these cars. She has an estimate for $900 to replace the rotors and pads which seems excessive if the calipers and brackets can be removed and then the rotors lifted off. Any idea?
Thanks, Roy

Hi - the brakes are the same - and 900.-- wow what a rip off. I would say at most brake shops they charge 99.00 per wheel and as far as rotors if they needed to be cut - new rotors are only a few bucks more .
I looked up some prices for O.E.M. parts and I found some as low as this = front brakes @ $ 29.00 set/ rear @ 27.00 a set and front disc-rotors were 46.00 each. . so 900.00
is crazy. so apx. 130.00 for front brake parts and labor so even at 150.00 per hour labor it should cost around 270.00 to 300. 00 and thats enough.it should only take 1 hr. or so of labor
