Chevrolet: Low to no Oil pressure at an Idle when car is warmed up, 1969 chevy camaro, chevy camaro
QuestionHello,
I have a 1969 chevy camaro with a 327 and for the most part runs very good. The only real problem I'm worried about is I have very low (maybe as bad as 5psi) oil pressure when at an idle. When I first start it up the oil pressure is great staying around 50psi but when the car warms up and I stop at a light it drops. The car hardly uses any oil and the only oil leak is on one of my manifold bolts (very small leak). I don't here any noses really except for a gurgle nose when I start the car (Like trapped air in water). I had a mechanic look at it and he said the nose was the TH350 transmission internal pump has a small leak. One other thing is the oil pressure driving down the road is great as well and if I put the car in neutral or park the oil pressure is between 20 to 30 psi. Should I be worried about the drop in oil pressure at idle when the car is warmed up? Thanks in advance

AnswerSeth,
If the drop in psi is only at the idle and you have no clacking or knocking than it should be just fine.
what I would do is get a H.D. oil filter and 5 qts. of oil .at 40 wht. oil and on top of that add a can of STP oil treatment than you will be fine. and you can use the 40 wt. oil or if it worries you than use 30 weight.
with the STP and it might even up the oil psi a little bit. ok now that summer is here it will be good for it.
ok
