Chevrolet: 1996 monte carlo backup switch, newer cars, backup light

Question
Can you tell me where the backup light switch is on a 1996 monte carlo with a 3.1 V-6 automatic with front wheel drive is located?I have replaced the bulbs and checked for power to the sockets but have none,my owners doesnt show a fuse location so I am assuming the switch is bad.

        I realy do not go up on the newer cars but I do know that back up switches  were on the transmission, but do you have a colum or floor mount as it could be in the consol or in the steering post or on the  shift  unit. You have to have a fuse for that car. it could be under a diff. name look for any burnt fuses. also you could also try to look at www.wikifaqs.com  as that site might help you.
