Dodge: high idle on 3.9 dakota, needle nose pliers, mass air flow sensor
QuestionWhen I have my truck in park it idles high (around 1100 RPM). I was told it may be the (AIS). What can I do?
AnswerHEY KYLE,HAVE YOU RUN THIS TRUCK ON A SCANNER TO RETRIEVE TROUBLE CODES? WE NEED TO START THERE. THERES A LOT OF THINGS THAT CAN CAUSE A HIGH IDLE SO WE NEED TO RULE OUT THE BASIC THINGS. MAKE SURE THE AIR FILTER IS CLEAN AND UNRESTRICTED,MAKE SURE THE WIRE FOR THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR IS CLEAN FROM OIL AND DUST.MAKE SURE THERE IS NOT A VACUUM LEAK ON THE ENGINE?TAKE A PAIR OF NEEDLE NOSE PLIERS AND WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING PINCH THEM OFF ONE AT A TIME TO SEE IF THERE IS A CHANGE IN IDLE(I FIND A LOT THIS WAY)THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR NEEDS TO BE BETWEEN 6 AND 9 TENTHS OF A VOLT AT IDLE.KYLE,IF THERE IS TROUBLE CODES I NEED TO KHOW WHAT THEY ARE? JUST BECAUSE THE ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ON DOES NOT MEAN CODES ARE NOT PRESENT.HOPE ANY OF THIS HELPS,TIM.
