Dodge: 2001 dodge Ram Transmissions, dodge ram 1500, dodge trucks
QuestionI own a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 2WD truck. I am an avid truck type and have been doing a lot of research on my truck at www.dodgetruckworld.com. I am seeing a lot of bad things being said about the trannys (46re) in these trucks. Are these tramsmission really junk or do I not need to worry? I have 80,0000 trouble free miles now... Thank you,

AnswerBarry,
The transmissions in the Dodge trucks do have a few issues, but just drive it and don't worry until something goes wrong.I have a 1996 Ram 1500 with 140000 miles on it and have just started to hear a whining sound when you put the truck in reverse and also it started not wanting to shift out of second gear unless you would really gouge on the gas,but i talked to some transmission mechanic buddies of mine and was told that the only thing to do was rebuild it.I didn't want to spend $1700.00 to do it,so i talked to one of my friends that owns an auto parts store and he told me to put a transmission additive in it.The stuff is called TransTune by SeaFoam. This fixed everything in it,it comes in a can maybe about 16 ounces or so.If you have problems try this,Most of the time it is caused by a valve sticking in the valve body. This stuff works,i thought my transmission was going to come apart.I added this stuff and drove it about 5 miles to run it through the transmission and you would not believe how well it started shifting.I will stand behind this from now on.RamMan
