Ford: 1996 Ford Thunderbird water pump, 1996 ford thunderbird, ford thunderbird

I removed the original water pump which has the top bypass metal pipe pressed in. The new water pump from Kragen is sent with an O-ring to seal that pipe. I can't get that O-ring to seal the pipe that was pressed in the original pump.

Is this a 3.8 or a 4.6. I'm guessing a 3.8.I would make sure that is the right pump. I never ran into a problem like this. Check and see if the holes are the same and make sure it was machine smooth. What I would do is put some silicone on the o ring and with a small hammer and a piece of wood it would just tap in.It should go in with no problem.
