Ford: transmission woes, f150 4x4, e4od transmission

I am debating weather to replace or rebuild the e4od transmission in my 1991 f150 4x4 w/ the 302. this truck is my every day driver as an electrical contractor and right now I am in the process of trying to somewhat "restore" it. So as I'm thinking of which route to take I do what this tranny to be heavy duty and have the ability to take a beating. Any insight you might have on this matter would be appreciated. And when I say restore I mean bigger, badder, and better. Never again will I purchase one of these new pretend trucks. I just got out of an 08 f150 to be in a 91 .

These transmissions had some troubles in earlier years, but have become quite dependable since.  I prefer a manual, but If you are staying with and automatic, i would recommend a good rebuilder. There are many updates every year (solenoid packs, etc) and even some heavier parts available.

PS... mine is a 1976 F250 high boy
