Ford: transmisison, ford mustang gt, ping noise

Question
I have a 89 Ford Mustang GT with a 5-speed tranny. Why do i hear a "ping" noise when i reverse and take off in 1st gear? It only does that from reverse to 1st. i doesn't do that with any of the other gears.

sounds like it should be everything twisting up... (The slack in the drives and the slack in the rear diff...)try putting the rear of the car up on jackstands and turn the drive shaft back and forth... (Keep the trans in neutral) as long as it does not move a lot before the gears engage than it should be ok... it you have to turn it a lot for the gears in the rear diff to engage than you might have a problem... good luck.. let me know what you find...
