Ford: 2001 taurus steering wheel noise, columm, steering wheel

My wife has a 2001 taurus with 22000 miles. Recently, a clicking noise has developed in the steering wheel, not a loud click, and the noise is there either way you turn the wheel. Your help is appreciated.

Maury  can you hear this noise inside or outside?

Inside Ragu, coming from the steering wheel. seems like a click every 20 degrees or so.  Thanks for your time......

take a look under the steering columm inside the car remove the cover panal and get your self a flashlight and look up you  will see a silver ring see if any wires are touching it or by rotateing the wheel see if it got bent.with the cover off you should be able top hear the noise
