I have  a 1980  ford mustang lxand   the   V - 6 engine  is worn out  - -  Can I replace it with a 302  V 8 engine  and  if so  do I need to change the transmission --  the  transmission is a automatic

What trans do you have in it now?3 speed auto ,4 speed auto w/ over drive?



My Transmission  is a 3 speed auto

i would definately change the trans it would never hold up to the v8.now you know you have to change the following wire harness,fuel lines, comp,motor mounts ,rad,drive shaft, throttle cables,the best is to get one from the junk yard thats been totalled. then you can transfer all the parts you need this will save you a lot of running back and forth to the yard
